Wait, I’ve got to repeat that one more time…

Gaijin Tonic - “an invigorating, tequila-laced chicken soup for the soul of the adventurous drunkard!”

Wow, is it just me or is that one outrageous description?! That would be a great title to for a book! But we’d better not give Roaf any ideas… :)

If you missed it, yesterday, we had a fun and rumpus interview with Roaf of Gaijin Tonic. We were getting to know a bit about him and his blog. It is not to be missed!

Today we are diving deeper into the motivations and aspirations of Gaijin Tonic and it’s fearless, drunken leader.

So let’s get started!:

Daily J: Why did you start Gaijin Tonic?

Roaf: I wanted to flex my creative muscles, as my mind was melting in a very repetitive teaching job. I already had a lot of unpublished articles, stories and pictures lying around so I decided to turn them into a blog. Most of what I had written was about boozing, so I themed the blog around that.

Daily J: I can relate to the English-teacher mind melt. I once caught my self saying “EngRish” to a student, it was then that I knew I had officially been in Japan too long :) . Anyway, once you knew you wanted to do it, what was the hardest part of starting your site?

Roaf: Knowing absolutely nothing about computers, or the technical side of things. But I’ve learned a lot in a short amount of time.

Daily J: So now that you know the ropes, what part of running Gaijin Tonic is the most fun for you?

Roaf: The freedom to write about whatever I want, whenever I want, without having to answer to any higher authorities. I also relish introducing people to my weird and obscure taste in bars, music, and films.

Daily J: What is the most interesting project you are current working on?

Roaf: I’m planning to interview a few interesting characters that I’ve met over the years in Japan, outsiders and oddballs with unorthodox jobs and hobbies.

Daily J: Looking forward to that! Let us know when you do. And our last question before we let you get back to blog research, how can readers get the most benefit from G T?

Roaf: Well, it’s just a silly blog at the end of the day, but it might help people discover some cool and quirky new bars around Japan, and hopefully provide them with a few laughs, too.

Well, Roaf, you have definitely given us plenty to laugh about here at Daily J. Thank you for the interview!

And a special thanks to all of you J-enthusiasts out there for checking out our interview. Make sure to visit Gaijin Tonic and say “hi” to Roaf and help him help obscure Japanese beers and bands take over the world!

To all a good day

[…] I’ve been Interviewed! A pleasant person at Nipponster has interviewed me and put it on their site. Very flattering for my ego, but I can’t help but think they’re misguided maniacs for choosing yours truly! You can check it out here: Nipponster Nipponster […]
