Japan blogs of the year 2007

On December 18, 2007 in JapanBlogMatsuri, On the J-web

The Olympics of J-blogs!

Ken YN from WhatJapanThinks is having a little “Japan Blogs of the Year 2007″ Contest

and somehow DailyJ has been nominated. I think that probably had to do with the “beer and darts” selection process :)

There are quite a few past DailyJ interviewees on there so maybe beer and darts have not gone too wrong. Here is a list of them (I’m not saying that you have to vote for them, I’m just saying that if you want to be my friend… :) ):

#1 JapanNewbie.com

Somehow we were paired head to head and against JapanProbe. No fair! They are pitting us against each other. So I am taking drastic action and saying go now and vote for JapanNewbie so that at least one of us has a chance to kick butt!

We are also running against Trans-Pacific and they are shamelessly trying to bribe their readers into voting for them. We would never do that 8) but rumour has it Jnewbie is offering a free round of beer, Osaka bloggers. :D
Vote for the underdog!

#2 Gaijin Tonic

It’s about humour. How is Gaijin Tonic not in the lead?!

He is running against some funny sites, I admit (one of them, Tofugu, is an upcoming interviewee on DailyJ). But still, it’s Gaijin Tonic people. Vote!

#3 Digital World Tokyo

Is currently second to PinkTentacle. Come on! Digital World Tokyo has USB humping Dogs! No contest! Vote DWT.

Now the heart-breaker…

Best personal blog on Japan

Two past DailyJ interviewees here:

Rocking in Hakata vs. Mari’s diary

This one I’ll leave up to you. But for me, I figure I am probably on this list because of Rocking In Hakata so sorry Mari, I had to do what I had to do…
All in all this has been great fun. And I think that it fosters a bit of community.

There are definitely sites that I’d like to see on there that are not. On DailyJ I believe 100% that each blog and each blogger has their own unique an interesting story to tell and they deserve to tell it and be heard.

Let’s all keep on blogging and sharing the love in our own special way!

DailyJ

p.s. Ken, JapanBlogMatsuri!

  1. Trans-Pacific Radio » Japan Blogs of the Year 2007 - Voting Open! :: Independent Podcasts from Tokyo, Japan - Japanese News, Politics, Business and Economy Said,

[…] also running against Japan Newbie and Daily J. If you want, you can be a Naderite and vote for them. We’ll still like you. Just not as […]

  2. Roaf Said,

Hey, thanks for bigging me up! Good luck in your category.

  3. Chris B Said,

I gotta give an opinion on this and remember that it’s my opinion. As valuable as any other.

That looks to me like a good idea totally f___ed up!
I am depressed to see what is getting all the votes. And How about a “new blogger” category? Throw a bone to the little people?

    And a “Add free” category?

    Riddle me this…
If I click on an add on a blog and I end up getting screwed somehow…what then? It’s not your product so it’s not your problem??
Internet fraud is growing like bacteria…is it worth the money to potentially f__k one of your readers?

My blog is a mess but there are others who don’t “pimp for pennies” and they should have a category .

I honestly didn’t know half the blogs listed (I now know why)

Why is Gaijin tonic in the Humor category? I think its a serious read.
Two of the big vote getters seem more like comedy to me.

    Too tired to vent anymore.

I think I broke 2 fingers from typing too much.

  4. The Chemist Said,

Your welcome, Roaf! Looks like I am getting thoroughly stomped :D

  5. The Chemist Said,

Thanks Chris for ranting about me. I had my own little rant too.

Love is the best medicine at the end of the day though, because I know that every Japan blog is loved by someone and I have to respect that.

I think they really took what you had to say the wrong way. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

And you had some valid points that got lost in the shuffle. More categories (like new blogger) would be nice. I especially like the advertisement-free category idea because I see the same tired ads on a lot of J-sites. Also 4-5 sites per category

Even with the things that could be better I think we all agree that this is a neat idea. At the very least it is getting people talking.

Take care of those fingers and don’t worry, “we will get our glory day in the sun.” :D

  6. Greg Said,

Ken missed some great blogs like Stippy, Sushicam, Japansugoi, Tokyotimes and all those anime blogs. Maybe those blog owners didn’t bribe him like the others did :P

  7. The Chemist Said,

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, the list was by no means complete but I think maybe he was trying to highlight lesser known blogs, maybe (?). I don’t know.

What I still cannot figure out is how Daily J got on there as it is not really a blog about Japan per se (plus it just started in September). I took a look at the blogs people nominated in the posts leading up to the contest (in the comments on the posts) and I didn’t see DailyJ anywhere.

But as he said, he picked with beer and darts. So that probably explains all the inconsistencies :D
