Japan Blog Search Engine
On August 10, 2008 in Suggestions Please
I am testing out a new search engine on Nipponster and would love any feedback you could give me.
The Nipponster Japan Blog Search Engine
Right now it is at the early, egg-sucking stage.
It will need lots of tweaking.
But I just want to launch it already and get some feedback.
So, what do you think?

Back to business! Okay, I clicked “Blogs” and then searched for “Akihiro Miwa”. The first few results were from the Internet Movie Database, Amazon.com and Wikipedia. So what did I do wrong?
As for appearance, jazz it up a bit. I mean, I understand the whole simple-is-better philosophy applies here because it’s simply a search engine, but some people won’t appreciate such simplicity right away and may click away if there isn’t something to grab their attention.
@ Nick,
Nothing wrong on your part.
It is supposed to be set to index only the rss feeds on the list but for some reason it is not doing that
I just complained about it to my contact at swicki so hopefully I’ll have that fixed soon.
Thanks for the feedback Billy.
That’s a good point.
Are you talking about the homepage or the results page?
Have you looked at the Video engine? That is probably what you have in mind when you say “jazz it up” (lots of eye-candy), right?
I guess I could add the JapanSoc Big RSS Feed to it. So that it displays clips of all the latest blog posts. That might be jazzy and useful.
I want to change the look of the homepage too, but my creativity & graphic design skills leave a lot to be desired
Nick,
I’ve got it fixed now (I hope). It only gives results from the blogs/feeds in the list.
(For the next few hours though it may be buggy though. they -swicki- are still beta testing the advance mode I am using)
Hmmm…. I’m either getting no results or results from nihongo.3yen. I’ll try again later.
I am having trouble with it again.
It is supposed to be indexing a list of blogs. But I am having all sorts of problems with it. I just changed the settings again and we’ll see if that helped any.
my contact at Swicki warned me that Advanced mode is really buggy and that is what I am using.
