Building lists with the help of the community
On August 11, 2008 in Suggestions Please
I want to build two lists, but I need your help.
One of Japan-related forums
and the other for Japan-related job sites.
They will be for an upcoming Nipponster forum search and job search engine. (you can beta test them here: job search , forum search - at your own risk
)
I have small lists that I’ve created on my own but I want to make lists that the Japan-related web community can add to, comment on, and rate.
So I created searches for them on Nipponster.
Here they are! You can add to the list, comment, and rate. I will use them to make the new search engines
What are the best Japan-related forums on the web?
What are the best Japan-related job sites on the web?
Let me know what you think.
And have a good day,
DailyJ
Japan Blog Search Engine
On August 10, 2008 in Suggestions Please
I am testing out a new search engine on Nipponster and would love any feedback you could give me.
The Nipponster Japan Blog Search Engine
Right now it is at the early, egg-sucking stage.
It will need lots of tweaking.
But I just want to launch it already and get some feedback.
So, what do you think?
Focus and the backrub
On August 09, 2008 in Community building, DailyJ Mission, Helping Japan Bloggers
Interesting bit of trivia for you…
What was the original name of Google before it was Google?
I’ll give you a hint, it was one of the words in this post’s title.
If you said “focus” guess what, you’re wrong. Yay!
Google started as Backrub.
What does that have to do with Japan/DailyJ/anything you ask?
They called it Backrub because it was the first search engine to measure links between websites. Links (relationships)Â = I rub your back.
Anyway,
Let’s talk about FOCUS.
Around the j-web different sites have different focuses. Different sites have different styles and functions. There is probably niche room for allÂ
And I also have a place. I need to focus more on creating the best search engine of Japan-related results. Nipponster.
Your J-site might have a different focus entirely.
But we can rub each others back by helping each other improve. I hope to use DailyJ (going forward) as a conduit for that; a conduit for helping others with their sites. And for receiving help with Nipponster.
So let’s share feedback going forward. Are you with me?Â
So what’s happening on your side of the J-web?
On August 08, 2008 in Uncategorized
Even when I was to busy to do DailyJ I had been keeping up some of what was going on around the Japan-related web.
There are some great things happening with the Japansoc community blog and BillyWest’s JapanBlogger.net, and in general it seems like a community is solidifying. Good news indeed!
So, how about it? What’s happening on your side of the Japan-related web?
Are you working on any new projects? Any exciting news?
Mission & Passion
On August 07, 2008 in Suggestions Please
I started DailyJ as an offshoot of Nipponster. With Nipponster I helped create a Japan-related website with the goal of helping other “Japan-enthusiasts” (people with some interest or vested-interest in Japan).
Starting it made me interested in connecting with other people who had started Japan-related websites and blogs. I wanted to hear about what they were doing and why they loved doing it. I wanted to hear their stories and know that I wasn’t alone.
I think, quite accidentally, I found something that was really needed: A community for Japan-related webmasters and bloggers; a place where they could tell their story and connect with others. (And I met some very cool people in the process)Â
I never ran out of people to interview who wanted to be interviewed. I just ran out of time and energy.
I wasn’t prepared to keep things going.
Daily blog posting is a little crazy.
But I like being a little crazy.
Let’s call it passion
Attention J-bloggers: It’s party time!

Hi All,
After a much much too long hiatus I’ve gathered the courage to show my face again and beg forgiveness for my absence.
But that’s not the important part. The important news is that some busy bees have been working away at reviving something really cool:
The Japan Blog Matsuri !!!
If you blog about Japan be sure to check this out!

Why are you still here? Go already!
Back on radar
On August 05, 2008 in Announcements, Community building, DailyJ Mission
…I’m back. But no promises. And no grandiose speech about the future. Just quiet determination.
I want to make Nipponster and DailyJ into great websites. I want to improve Japan-related web resources and help build up the community.
But this time I have to pace myself and not burn out. And most importantly, I need to focus.
I have been thinking a lot about DailyJ, Nipponster, and the bloggers/webmasters who I’ve had contact with through this blog.
I want to thank all of you again for your support in the past (and especially all those who have kept nudging me to continue).
I hope that I will still have your support in the future.
Have a great day!
DailyJ
