Busy, busy, busy
On October 02, 2008 in On the J-web
I’ve been off catching up with conversations here and there, on other blogs and JapanSoc. So just a quick post today.
As some already know, JapanBlogger.net had technical problems and is down
I hope Billy will be able to rebuild it soon

Here’s a suggestion for Billy if he’s reading this. It wouldn’t be as fancy as the original JapanBlogger, but what about setting up a regular blog where users register and post about their own blog with a picture, and use the Wordpress ratings plugin to order them in the sidebar? Once set up, it would be completely hands-free.
That’s a good idea, Nick. But, everyone seemed to really like the gallery setup. If I can make the user uploading idiot-proof (just and expression; nothing against the users
), I think I’ll give it a shot.
Hmmm. Seems to me that this idea should work even with the way J-blogger was setup before. I think in wordpress a visitor can register (there is even better registration plugin –> wordpress.org/extend/plugins/register-plus/) and become an author.
Is there anything holding them back from authoring an entry on JB’s gallery-style theme?
I think JapanBlogger’s theme made heavy use of custom fields which required a hefty amount of work on Billy’s part, but I’m not sure of the details.
You’re right, Nick; the custom fields are key with the JapanBlogger theme. But, I’ve given JapanBlogger another go and I will be adding new blogs as often as I can. For now, registration is required to rate the blogs, but I’m thinking about lifting the registration requirement in the near future.
